Inspiration from Ina May Gaskin

Ina May Gaskin is the founder and director of The Farm Midwifery Centers, located near Summertown, Tennessee. Ina May is widely considered to be the founding mother of modern day midwifery, and has herself attended more than 1,200 births.  She is the author of natural birth must-reads Spiritual Midwifery, Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth, Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding, and Birth Matters: A Midwife’s Manifesto. The Farm is noted for its low rates of intervention, morbidity and mortality despite the inclusion of many vaginally delivered breeches, twin and grand multiparas. If one woman has single-handedly inspired a generation of midwives and doulas, it is without a doubt Ina May, and if her books are not already in your birth library, I urge you to pick them up today!
